| Name: Janet Flora Arabella Fraser Murray Born: 1719 (2 years older than Jamie) Home: Lallybroch (or Broch Tuarach) Parents: Brian Fraser (b. 1691, d. March 1740) and Ellen MacKenzie (b. 1691, d. 1729 in childbirth) Siblings: Brother Willie born 1716, died of smallpox at age 11 in 1727) and brother Jamie who is 2 years younger, born 1721 Husband: Ian Murray (b. 1720, d. March 10, 1778) Children: James ("Young Jamie"), Margaret Ellen (Maggie), Katherine Mary ("Kitty"), Caitlin Maisri (died at birth), Janet and Michael (twins), and Ian ("Young Ian") Cousin: Rupert MacKenzie (distant cousin) Home: LallybroachJanet ("Jenny") is Jamie's older sister. She lives at Lallybroch until Ian's death. We know that Jenny was only 10 years old when their mother died, and she took over running the house. She's very practical and level-headed, but has an extreme stubborn streak and a hot temper. When she was 21, Black Jack came to Lallybroch and threatened her. She screamed and Jamie, who was working in the field, came running to rescue her, but things went from bad to worse, and Black Jack ripped open Jenny's dress in front of Jamie and flogged him brutally. Then he turned to Jenny and asked if she would rather provide him with other entertainment inside. He knocked Jamie out, and went inside with Jenny, presumably raping her. Later, Dougal told Jamie that Jenny had had Black Jack's child, and then took up with another soldier (to keep Jamie from going home and learning the truth). It was a long time before Jamie finally found out what really happened and how Jenny dealt with Black Jack. When he finally did, he and Jenny were very close again! |
