Character: Hugh Munro

Actor: Simon Meacock

Name: Hugh Munro

Hugh Munro is a friend of Jamie's. His tongue was cut out by the Turks, and his legs were drenched in hot oil, a method of torture used to force captives to convert to the Musselman (Muslim) religion. But he must have escaped somehow. Anyway, he has his own form of sign language, and Jamie understands him very well.

Hugh Munro shows up for the first time in the S01-E08 Both Sides Now episode when he shoots an arrow near Jamie and Claire. Jamie introduces him to his wife of two days, and Hugh gives here a piece of amber with a dragonfly embedded in it for a wedding present. Then he tells Jamie that a Redcoat deserter named Horrocks witnessed the murder that Jamie is charged with (of Sergeant Wilkes), and is willing to testify, for a price.

Hugh Munro appears again in Dragonfly in Amber, so I suspect we will see more of him in Season Two.
