He was having a good time sword fighting with sticks with Dougal, and Claire assumed that Hamish was Dougal's son. When she mentioned that later that night in the great hall, everyone was shocked (especially Letitia and Dougal), and Hamish stated very emphatically, "I'm the son and heir of Colum MacKenzie".
