Fergus was originally named Claudel and grew up in Madame Elise's brothel in Paris, where he was born. Jamie hired the boy when he was about ten-years-old (in S02-E03) and renamed him Fergus after Fergus mac Leodhas, who was the leader of the band of Scotish mercenaries that Ian and Jamie's fought with in France (see Virgins). Fergus lost his right hand during the time that Jamie lived in the Dunbonnet cave (about 1752) and usually wears a hook. When Fergus was 30 he fell in love with Laoghaire's fifteen-year-old daughter Marsali, in Voyager, and they were married in the West Indies, I think on the island of Haiti (then called Hispanola).
