"Virgins" (1759) — Third in a series of Outlander Short Stories

Included in Dangerous Women, edited by George R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois

Set in October, 1740 near Bordeaux, France, this short story is a prequel that introduces 19-year-old Jamie Fraser as he and his 20-year-old friend Ian Murray become young mercenaries. It begins shortly after Jamie was flogged twice and his back is still healing. And it happens before Ian loses his leg.

This is the only story that I haven't so far been able to find in electronic format, although I've heard that it will be released for e-readers at some point. ~ Mary
